Henna Hair Dye?

Ok, so I am looking at highlighting my hair auburn-red. Right now it is dark brown, naturally, and has actually never been dyed before.

I have been looking at ways to naturally highlight my hair red, and it seems that the best option I have been able to find is using a henna paste. My first question is, is henna damaging to your hair? Does it strip your hair of it’s color? As far as using a henna dye vs. a regular chemical dye, which would be better for my hair?

Lastly, does anyone have any other suggeestions or ideas for naturally highlighting my hair red?

I’ve always liked red in hair as a very vibrant colour. I’ve used it myself for many years.

Henna is a vegetable stain. It’s not really a hair colour. It is not damaging in the strict sense. It is fairly permanent. Even though the intense brightness may fade, there will always be some stain in your hair. Keep that in mind if you want a different colour later. You will have to grow it out and cut it off completely to be rid of it all.

Remember, that henna does not change or remove your own natural hair colour. So you will have dark brown with red tones shining through. Depending on how long you leave it on, and how many treatments you use, it can be very light, or very deep red.

You can also use a rinse made with raspberry canes, but the tones is too light on dark hair. I think henna will be your best bet.
